Mahdia Bita (she/her) is a 2025 PURE participant and a senior at Mount Mary University, majoring in Biohealth Sciences with a minor in English. In the Garcia-Keller Lab, she is gaining hands-on research experience by assisting with behavioral and neurobiological experiments, while developing the skills necessary for medical school. Mahdia is eager to take on more independent projects as she continues to grow as a researcher. Outside the lab, she enjoys hiking, going to the gym, and staying active through new adventures.

What animal would you be?
A dolphin! They are super smart, and I really want to try breathing H2O.
What superpower would you have?
As a dolphin, my chosen superpower would be the ability to speak, using my voice to advocate for the ocean and all the life it sustains.
What would your alternative career be?
My alternative career would be as an author or poet. Writing has always been the way I make sense of the world, and I love how words can move people just as deeply as science can heal them.
